‘Justice and Peace’ activities are seen as an integral part and expression of our love of neighbour and an intrinsic part of our Christian way of life. In other words, to be concerned about the lack of justice and peace is a necessity for us all.
The monthly meeting exists to consider Justice and Peace issues, usually on the 4th Monday of each month (except August and December) in the parish centre of one of the three Catholic Leamington churches (see the list opposite for the venues of future meetings). This is an open meeting for any parishioner to take part.
Our meeting does not see itself as a separate group of the parish, but rather a meeting of the wider Catholic Leamington parish to consider issues relating to justice and peace. Therefore, any parishioner is welcome to attend at any time.
It is held to learn about issues of concern and feed information back to the parish, making recommendations or facilitating activities in response to these issues. In this way we hope to raise the level of awareness amongst parishioners.
The meeting does not involve itself directly in fundraising or aid activities but rather areas of concern such as:
We cannot do everything, but rather choose those issues that are of particular interest to those attending the meetings. Unfortunately this may mean that we cannot participate in campaigns or projects that are current at any particular time.
In particular, note is taken of input from:
Some websites of note:
We have all our documents, including notes of our meetings, on our GoogleDrive
The email address used for the group is firstname.lastname@example.org and there is a Google Group email sharing group that you can join by emailing email@example.com, in order to get email notifications and updates.
Prayer intention for April:
We pray for persecuted Christians and all prisoners of conscience.
The Stations of the Cross with a Justice and Peace theme are held each Wednesday during Lent at 11.45 am in St Peter's church, just before the 12.30 mass.
A letter from Rt Rev Paul McAleenan, Lead Bishop for Migration and Asylum, initially to the other Bishops of England and Wales but intended for wider circulation, refers to the Government's Settlement Scheme for EU/EEA citizens wishing to remain in the UK after Brexit. They are www.gov.uk/eusettledstatus and a European Commission website www.eurights.uk (which includes information on an option for parishes, groups or organizations to book an immigration solicitor free of charge to attend information sessions they are hosting).
