The St Vincent de Paul Society aims to follow Christ’s teaching to love your neighbours. There are many local neighbours who face poverty, loneliness and isolation - and the SVP can give you the means to turn your concern into action by helping them.
Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, said: “The SVP provides much needed practical support to those living in poverty. More members are needed to ensure that this work continues to grow and flourish. I urge anyone who has time to offer, to work with the SVP by becoming a volunteer.” |
Apart from visiting, we also collect and distribute items like furniture, household items and clothing, that people no longer need, but others will appreciate. In addition to the adult conference there are also SVP youth groups for different age ranges, the most popular being the Mini-Vinnies, designed for primary school children.
In Leamington there are conferences at Our Lady’s and St Peter’s churches, and we have just established one at St Joseph’s. We are always looking for new members, especially for the new St Joseph’s conference, and welcome your interest. The typical time commitment is about one hour a week on a visit and then a conference meeting once a fortnight for 30-45 minutes.
You can find out more about the Society at www.svp.org.uk or talk to the local District President David Burton on 07713 246987 or email [email protected]
