Over 2024 we celebrated our 50 years

SPAN meetings are held on the second Monday of each month (except August)
SPAN was founded by parishioners in December 1973 for the purpose of bringing Christian love in practical ways to those in need both locally and overseas.

SPAN became a registered charity in 1994 – number 1040252. Since its foundation SPAN has administered donations from parishioners totalling over £1.25 million.

In 2022 and 2023 SPAN distributed over  £42,000.

How to donate
Members of our parishes are invited to participate in the activities of SPAN and to donate to its work, through using church collection boxes, collection envelopes or bank transfer.
We achieve so much for many people, only through your support and generosity.
You can also use the Gift Aid scheme or donate by a regular Bank Standing Order.
From time to time special JustGiving campaigns are set up. Cheques should be made out to SPAN and our Bank Account has
Sort Code 402706 with Account Number 21324004.
Please contact our Treasurer if Gift Aid can be claimed. Contact details below.

SPAN is one of the main ways by which Catholics in Leamington make charitable donations.

Throughout the year
SPAN has a number of ongoing commitments, principally:
  • CAFOD e.g. regularly sending aid to refugee camps in Darfur in Sudan
  • St Francis Leprosy Hospital in Nyenga, Uganda
  • Ortum Mission Hospital, Kenya
Regular support is also given to:
  • The Warwick & Leamington Foodbank
  • New Chapters supporting their alcohol and drug rehabilitation project in Leamington
  • Young People First supporting young people at the Westbury Centre in Leamington
  • Hope House Babies Home in Nairobi, Kenya, helping unwanted babies
  • The House of Light and Hope (which is a home for street children in the Lebanon)
  • To priests doing pastoral work in Zambia and Uganda
  • Funding the education of three orphans and a deaf and dumb child in Uganda
  • Kiirua Mission Hospital in Kenya (long supported by Kindaid)
Lenten Appeals
In 2022 we donated £ 1,000 to both Zoe's Place Baby Hospice in Coventry and Kindaid's  Kiirua Mission Hospital in Kenya and gave £ 2,500 in food vouchers via our primary schools.
The same 3 way appeal was held
in 2023 £ 600 was sent to Zoe's Place and Kiirua.
In 2024 we had an appeal just before Lent for Friends of the Holy Land and our Lenten appeal was for House of Light and Hope in Lebanon as well as food vouchers for local needy.
Once again,
in 2025 our Lenten appeal provided
food vouchers for local needy and supported our links in the Holy Land through both Friends of the Holy Land in Gaza and House of Light and Hope in Lebanon, both receiving £ 1,500.

Christmas food voucher appeal
SPAN coordinates the distribution of vouchers to our Catholic Primary School pupils who receive Free School Meals, our local refugee families and families suggested by the SVP and local Family Centres. Additionally, we have provided a Christmas card to our housebound parishioners, with the help of our Eucharistic Minsters and the SVP.

SPAN meetings
Appeals for support are received throughout the year and are discussed at the SPAN monthly meetings, held on the second Monday of all months except August at 7.30pm at St Peter's.
Careful consideration is given to each appeal, and where appropriate, a donation is made.

An Annual Review is held for the previous year sometime between May and November.
All parishioners across Catholic Leamington are welcome to attend these meetings as we are all part of SPAN.
To be added to our e-mail distribution list, please contact our Secretary:  [email protected]

Our  December, January and February meetings may be held by Zoom.
