St. Peter's Aid for the Needy (SPAN)
during the pandemic span continues to support all its beneficiaries, through your generous support
St. Peter’s Aid for the Needy (SPAN) was founded by parishioners in 1974 for the purpose of bringing Christian love in practical ways to those in need both locally and overseas. SPAN became a registered charity in 1994 – number 1040252. Since its foundation SPAN has administered donations from parishioners totalling over £1 million. In 2016 SPAN received and distributed over £45,000, in 2017 £43,000, £38,000 in 2018, £36,800 in 2019 and £37,000 in 2020. SPAN aims to share its available funds between local and UK needs and those in need overseas - click to see pie chart. |
How to donate
Members of our parishes are invited to participate in the activities of SPAN and to donate to its work, through using church collection boxes or collection envelopes.
We achieve so much for many people, only through your support and generosity.
You can also use the Gift Aid scheme or donate by a regular Bank Standing Order.
From time to time special JustGiving campaigns are set up. Cheques should be made out to SPAN and our Bank Account has Sort Code 402706 with Account Number 21324004. Please contact our Treasurer if Gift Aid can be claimed. Contact details below.

Throughout the year
SPAN has a number of ongoing commitments, principally:
Lenten Appeals
During Lent, our priests have agreed to SPAN coordinating speakers to give 3 appeals at Masses across Catholic Leamington, and a collection is taken for the charity.
In 2021 we were unable to host speakers (due to the pandemic) and decided to have a combined appeal for Myton Hospice, Kindaid's Mission in Kiirua, Kenya and for the local needy by providing food vouchers.
Christmas food voucher appeal
SPAN coordinates the distribution of vouchers to our Catholic Primary School pupils who receive Free School Meals, our local refugee families and families suggested by the local Family Centres. Additionally, we have provided a Christmas card and sweets to our housebound parishioners, with the help of our Eucharistic Minsters and the SVP.

SPAN meetings
Appeals for support are received throughout the year and are discussed at the SPAN monthly meetings.
Careful consideration is given to each appeal, and where appropriate, a donation is made.
SPAN open meetings are held in the parish centre at 7.30pm on the second Monday of each month (except August) and the Annual General Meeting is usually held in May.
All parishioners across Catholic Leamington are welcome to attend these meetings as we are all part of SPAN. During the pandemic our meetings have been virtual. To join our meetings, or to be added to our e-mail distribution list, please contact our Secretary: paulhayden@ntlworld.com
