Throughout the year
SPAN has a number of ongoing commitments, principally:
For several years, our priests have agreed to SPAN coordinating speakers to give 3 appeals at Masses across Catholic Leamington during Lent, and a collection was taken for each charity.
In 2022 we were unable to host speakers (due to the pandemic) and decided to have a combined appeal for Zoe's Place Baby Hospice in Coventry, Kindaid's Mission Hospital in Kiirua, Kenya and for our local needy by providing food vouchers. We donated £ 1,000 to both Zoe's Place and Kiirua and distributed £ 2,500 in food vouchers via our primary schools. The same 3 way appeal was held in 2023 £ 600 was sent to Zoe's Place and Kiirua. In 2024 we had an appeal just before Lent for Friends of the Holy Land and our Lenten appeal was for House of Light and Hope in Lebanon as well as food vouchers for local needy.
Christmas food voucher appeal
SPAN coordinates the distribution of vouchers to our Catholic Primary School pupils who receive Free School Meals, our local refugee families and families suggested by the local Family Centres. Additionally, we have provided a Christmas card to our housebound parishioners, with the help of our Eucharistic Minsters and the SVP.
