Music in church
Why Sing?
Music at Our Lady's
Musically, Our Lady's is not proud. We have an enthusiastic band of singers and players who make a joyful noise. You'll find us at the 9.15am Mass, along with the families and children. Our own families and children have joined us as they grew up - that's why we're called the Family Choir - and some continue to play and sing. All are welcome, whether you sing like a lark or drone like a bagpipe. If God gave you a great voice, use it; and if God didn't, now is the time to get your own back.
With the Assembly at the heart of everything that we plan, all are encouraged to sing the Proper of the Mass, unchanging from week to week, and to join us with music as diverse as tenth-century chant to pieces the ink is not yet dry on, because it isn't quite finished!
Music is fun at Our Lady's, but apt and prayerful. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 7.30pm in the Lower Hall. Please, come and pray with us.
- The bible has at least nine references calling us to 'Sing a new song to the Lord'.
- The Church has always seen music as integral to the Mass, not a nice to have.
- The Christian message of hope makes our spirit soar, and dance and sing.
- As St Augustine claimed: 'He who sings well, prays twice.'
- Why not?

Music at St Peter's
St Peter's has a fine choral tradition with a strong choir and organ. Practices are held on Tuesday evenings in the church. A variety of Mass settings is used and an anthem is sung each week. Occasional concerts are given in addition to the popular Christmas Carol Service each year. The choir is always open to new members,
